Language Act: What do website owners need to do?
On April 25, 2019, the Ukrainian parliament passed a resonant law on the state language. Information about changes can be found online without difficulty. However, for a better and easier understanding, we decided to write an article for you, which will answer the question that interests everyone: "What will happen to the Internet now?".
How exactly will the new law affect the work of Internet resources and online stores?
The new law foresees the state of the state language as the main one not only for the spheres of education, medicine, public services or the public sector, but also on the Internet.
That's why we want to inform you about changes that affect your sites:
— all computer programs and sites must have a Ukrainian interface;
— All online stores, firms, state institutions and other companies registered in Ukraine should use the default language of the Ukrainian language;
— All promotional materials such as sms and postal mail, articles, pop-ups should be created in Ukrainian.
Violation of these rules provides for a fine of 3400 to 5100, and for violations in the field of advertising from 5100 to 6800. Moreover, the ground for a fine is the appeal of any citizen of Ukraine with a complaint to the relevant authorities.
But do not panic! Glyanec will help to comply with the requirements of the law, and not to worry about fines
Our studio has created multilingual sites for many years and always recommends that the Ukrainian language be the main and default language.
— When creating a site, you can immediately order a multilingual site with the Ukrainian language by default. The multilingual module will help the user to easily change the language of the site, with each language for the convenience of the user in the URL will contain the prefix en /, ru / etc.
— We use the CMS, which supports multilingualism, so we can recycle all sites in multilingual, regardless of what is currently there.
— The Sitemap (Sitemap.xml) immediately includes a link to all language versions of the site, and correctly written meta tags allow search engines to accurately determine the language of each page.
The owners of sites on the Internet are 18 months from the time of the adoption of the law.
However, it is not necessary to drag Ukrainianization into a site.
Therefore, our studio offers to contact us for solving any problems related to the site's transition to the Ukrainian version:
— If your site does not have a Ukrainian version — you must necessarily order it;
— If the Ukrainian version is, but it is not the main one — you must necessarily make it the main one;
— If the Ukrainian version is, but is not fully completed — you must fill it in order to have more information than in other versions.
You can order the solution to all these problems, as well as many other things, in the studio of web design Glyanec.
The price will depend on the complexity of the site, the availability of translation or the amount of text to be translated, or the version of the CMS, but will be modest.
To clarify the list of required works and estimate the cost of their implementation, send the letter to [email protected] or call 0 (800) 759-759.
